Research

A recent study for parents of children aged 4-17 found that the percentage reporting their children currently experience frequent anxiety rose from 30% in 2020 to 42% in 2022. 24% of parents reported that their kids are having trouble sleeping, while 24% said their children are frequently unwilling to go to school.

NASUWT’s Wellbeing Survey 2022 found that 91% of teachers reported that their job had adversely affected their mental health in the last year, while 52% said the workload was a critical factor damaging their mental health. Secondary school teacher vacancies are at a five-year high, with early indications that the labour market in 2023 will also be challenging for schools seeking teachers.

Research on Regulation

  • “Self-regulation in children is an interactional process in which a caregiver (i.e., parent or teacher) provides support, scaffolding, and modelling that facilitates a child’s ability to understand, express, and modulate feelings, thoughts, and behaviour”

    Hamoudi et al., 2015

  • “Results indicated that emotion regulation was positively associated with teacher reports of children's academic success and productivity in the classroom and standardized early literacy and math achievement scores."

    Graziano et al 2007

  • "Results suggest that a focus on self-regulation skills in educational programs has the potential to improve socio-relational outcomes for all children with socio-emotional difficulties."
